- Archaeologists have found 100 gold jewelry dating back 1,1 thousand years in Saudi Arabia
A rare collection of 100 gold jewelry, more than 1,100 years old, has been discovered at the archaeological site of Al-Darya in the Al-Qasim region of Saudi Arabia. This was reported by Arkeonews magazine on May 24.
Historical background
The artifacts date back to the reign of the Abbasid dynasty. The collection includes pendants, decorated discs, gold dividers and multicolored beads. According to experts, the products could form a single jewelry set that belonged to a private individual and was used for special occasions or by representatives of the elite.
Some of the objects still have floral motifs inscribed in geometric shapes, which is typical of Islamic art of that time. One of the large disc-shaped ornaments is distinguished by the symmetrical arrangement of colored stones around the central element. The researchers noted the use of complex techniques: craftsmen forged thin sheets of gold, stamped and inserted stones into prepared frames.

This discovery reflects the richness of Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage and the Kingdom's historical position as a crossroads of trade routes and cultural exchange.
In addition to gold, archaeologists have discovered the foundations of stone buildings, mud brick walls, hearths, ceramics and talcochlorite products, which confirms the existence of a permanent settlement at the end of the 9th century.
On May 24, Science Daily magazine reported the discovery of 430,000-year-old wooden tools in Greece. Scientists have called the find the oldest ever found hand tools. Stone tools and bones of large animals, including elephants, were also found in the parking lot along with wooden tools, indicating that the site was used for butchering prey near the edge of an ancient lake.
