The idea of tipping artists is not a substitute for government support for the theater or the wage system. The artistic director of Pokrovka told about this on May 25 in an interview with Izvestia. The theater" Dmitry Bikbaev.

"The State Theater continues to fulfill its cultural mission, and artists receive their salaries in accordance with the established procedure. We do not collect any additional payments and do not participate in the cash flow. This is an exceptional opportunity for the viewer to express personal gratitude to the artist, whose work has especially touched him," Bikbayev said.

He stressed that the initiative is related to the search for modern forms of interaction between the theater and the audience.

"The theater has always existed due to the emotional connection between the stage and the auditorium. People give flowers to the artists, write letters, and wait after the performances to say their thanks. Today, digital technologies are simply creating new forms for this," said the artistic director of the theater.

According to Bikbaev, such mechanisms can be considered as a continuation of the traditions of Russian patronage.

"Russian culture has historically been based not only on government support, but also on people's personal involvement in art. Savva Morozov helped the Moscow Art Theater, Sergei Diaghilev opened the Russian theater and ballet to the world. In this sense, every viewer who wants to support an artist can feel like a modern patron of the arts," he said.

Bikbayev added that the theater is open to professional discussion of such initiatives in the cultural sphere.

"Today, theaters are looking for new ways to talk to a young audience, new forms of audience involvement in cultural life. I think it is very important to discuss this calmly, professionally and without simplifications," he stressed.

According to the artistic director, the main task of the theater remains to develop a lively interest in art and strengthen the bond between the audience and the artist.

"If the audience wants to support the artist not only with applause, but also with a personal gesture of gratitude, this primarily speaks to the value of the theater and the power of the emotional response that is generated during the performance," Bikbayev concluded.

In "Pokrovka.Theater" in Moscow on the same day, tips appeared for the troupe's artists. Viewers can thank the actors by making a cashless transfer via the Netmonet digital platform. Ads with a QR code are posted at the reception and in the theater buffet.
