The expert lowered expectations from the Russian car market in May

Sales of new passenger cars in Russia in May will be slightly lower than in April, and will amount to about 110 thousand units. The volume of the commercial equipment market will be about 10 thousand units. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, shared this forecast in his Telegram channel on May 25.

Last week (May 18-24), 25.4 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia. This is 1.4% more than a week earlier and 16.4% higher than in the same week last year, the expert estimated.

The segment of light commercial vehicles (LCVs up to 3.5 tons) showed the result at the level of the previous week — 1,125 units (-0.3%). Compared to last year, the dynamics is still negative (-28.5%).

As for the truck segment, sales totaled 888 units. The indicator increased by 6% compared to the previous week, and decreased by 1.7% compared to the 21st week of last year.

As reported on May 6, by the end of April this year, 117.5 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 15.1% more than in the same month of 2025. The Lada Granta model topped the Russian car market in April, and the Tenet T7 crossover of the domestic brand regained the title of the most popular SUV, ahead of the Haval Jolion.
