- A conflict has arisen between the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
A public conflict broke out between the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mikhail Fedorov, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, over control over arms purchases. This was reported on May 24 in the Russian law enforcement agencies.
"There is a public conflict in Ukraine between Minister Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Syrsky. The reason was the control over arms purchases. The head of the defense department is trying to completely remove regular military personnel from supporting the army," TASS quoted the text of the message.
According to the source, Fedorov allegedly advocates the refusal to purchase artillery pieces, ammunition for them, and mortars. The law enforcement agencies also stated that the minister was associated with companies producing unmanned systems, while Syrsky allegedly "earned" by purchasing ammunition from "trusted suppliers."
The newspaper Die Zeit reported on May 21 that European leaders are calling on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the corruption scandal involving his office chief, Andriy Ermak, for the sake of the country's membership in the European Union (EU). It was noted that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had personally discussed this topic with Zelensky several times and insisted on explanations.
