The State Duma announced the discussion of projects on increasing tax duties for migrants

Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation next week will consider a bill aimed at increasing tax duties for migrants. This was announced on May 24 by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the legislature.

He stressed that such measures would help streamline migration policy and provide additional budget revenues of about 15 billion rubles annually.

The legislators propose to increase the fee for obtaining Russian citizenship by 12 times (up to 50,000 rubles), and by eight times (up to 15,000 rubles) for obtaining a temporary residence permit. It is also five times more expensive (up to 30 thousand rubles) to issue a residence permit. Permission to hire migrants under the proposed bill will amount to 15 thousand rubles for each foreign specialist.

"Those who want to live in our country and become its citizen must meet the set standards: know the Russian language, comply with the laws of the Russian Federation, and respect our traditions, history, and culture," Volodin said in a message on the Maks messenger.

At the moment, 10 draft laws related to migration are being considered in parliament, and since 2024, 22 federal laws on this topic have been adopted.

This will help control the flow of labor from abroad, but it may also cause an outflow of foreign personnel, experts believe.

On May 13, State Duma deputies adopted in the first reading a bill on the expulsion of foreign citizens and stateless persons for a number of administrative offenses, including minor hooliganism. The document was submitted by the Russian government in March and provides for amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences. The initiative also involves an increase in fines for violating the rules of entry and stay in the Russian Federation, and the illegal hiring of foreigners.
