Uganda talks about the danger of confusing Ebola with malaria
The symptoms of Ebola can be confused with another dangerous disease — malaria. Ugandan doctor Elijah Kiiza, who has experience in treating Ebola patients, told about this on May 24.
"The patient's condition and symptoms can be mistaken for malaria," he told RIA Novosti.
Ebola is transmitted to humans from wild animals. The first symptoms include fever, muscle cramps, headache, and throat problems. Then the work of the liver and kidneys is disrupted, and in some cases internal bleeding may occur.
Similar symptoms appear in malaria, but the source of infection in this case is infected female mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles.
On May 15, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. Later, on May 22, the Ministry of Communications and Media Affairs of the DRC reported an estimated 204 deaths in the country.
CNN reported at the same time that protesters had set fire to an Ebola treatment center in the eastern part of the DRC. According to the newspaper, the conflict arose after the death of a young man from an illness. His relatives tried to forcibly remove the body from the hospital, but the doctors refused to give it back.
