California declared a state of emergency due to chemical leaks in Orange County
A state of emergency has been declared in Orange County, California, due to a leak of toxic chemicals at an aerospace facility. This was announced on May 23 by the governor of the state Gavin Newsom.
"I am declaring a state of emergency in Orange County as California continues to respond to the incident involving a dangerous chemical in Garden Grove," he wrote on the social network X.
According to Newsom, government agencies provide support to ensure public safety.
The chemical leak in Orange County became known on May 22. Because of this, 44,000 people were evacuated from several California cities. It was clarified that the industrial tank at the Garden Grove facility contains 7 thousand gallons of methyl methacrylate, a "very volatile" and "flammable" toxic substance.
