The encryption system in the WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) is a "major deception", and the messenger itself "sold the privacy" of users. This was announced on May 23 by Pavel Durov, the creator of the Telegram messenger, reacting to the news that the state of Texas had sued this application due to privacy deception.

"The state of Texas has sued WhatsApp for lying to users about privacy — because WhatsApp employees have access to 'virtually all' personal messages," the Telegram channel said.

Bloomberg reported in January that Meta was accused of fraud due to access to correspondence on her WhatsApp messenger. It was noted that the company uses end-to-end encryption technology, in which only the participants in the correspondence have access to messages, but users believe that this information is false.

Durov said on April 10 that WhatsApp's encryption feature could turn out to be the biggest scam in history. According to Durov, the service reads user messages and also shares this data with third parties. In turn, the WhatsApp press service, in response to the Telegram creator's message, stated that the messenger uses an end-to-end encryption system by default for users' private messages and calls.
