A magnitude 6 earthquake has struck the Hawaiian Big Island, and the US Geological Survey has assessed the condition of the local volcano. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on May 23.

"An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 occurred near Honaunau-Napoopoo on the Big Island of Hawaii, and the US Geological Survey assessed the condition of the Kilauea volcano," the material says.

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It has been erupting sporadically since December 23, 2024. The next eruption is expected to occur between May 24 and May 27.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 23 km. It was felt over a wide area of several Hawaiian islands.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred in the border region of Turkey and Syria on May 20. In the Turkish province of Malatya, tremors were recorded at 09:00 Moscow time. The epicenter was located near the village of Gulumushagy, and the center was located at a depth of 4.4 km.
