Putin congratulates chess player Karpov on his 75th birthday

Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent congratulations to the honorary President of the Russian Chess Federation, world champion Anatoly Karpov on his 75th birthday. The telegram was published on May 23 on the Kremlin's website.

The Head of State noted the importance of Karpov's social and mentoring activities.

"One of the outstanding grandmasters of our time, you have worthily continued the wonderful traditions of the national chess school. You have won many difficult, intense, and exciting matches against strong and renowned opponents, as well as beautiful and convincing victories," the Kremlin said in a telegram.

The Head of State wished the hero of the day good health and all the best.

On May 22, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Russian and Soviet chess player Anatoly Karpov a true legend of the country. He noted that many generations of Russian chess players have known and studied Karpov's games, who continues to pass on his experience to young athletes and continues his activities in the field of chess.
