The number of injured in an accident involving a minibus and a Gazelle carrying members of the basketball team in the Chelyabinsk Region has increased to eight. This was announced by Governor Alexey Texler on May 22.

"Eight people were injured in the accident," he said in a message on the Maks messenger.

The head of the region clarified that all the victims received help in Zlatoust polyclinics. Their condition is assessed as satisfactory.

He recalled that the team plans to return to Perm by train. The issue of transporting the athletes' escort will be resolved when his condition returns to normal after the operation.

On the same day, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation in the Chelyabinsk Region reported the death of one person in an accident with a passenger bus and a Gazelle on the federal highway M-5 Ural. It turned out to be the driver transporting the athletes. At that time, five victims were also reported.

A criminal case was opened into the incident in accordance with Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of citizens").
