A court in Turkey has ruled to remove the leader of an opposition party from his post.

A court in Turkey has decided to replace the leader of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), Ozgur Ozel, with Kemal Kilicdaroglu. This was reported on May 21 by the Bloomberg news agency with reference to the deputy chairman of the party, Gul Ciftci.

"The Ankara Court of Appeal has overturned the results of the 2023 Republican People's Party congress. The court's decision annuls the election of Ozgur Ozel as chairman of the RNP," the publication says.

It is noted that due to this decision, the index of the Turkish stock exchange Borsa Istanbul 100 closed with a drop of 6.1%. At the same time, the lira exchange rate remained virtually unchanged, as state-owned banks sold about $6 billion worth of shares the day before to protect the currency.
