- The media reported the loss of US Reaper drones worth $ 1 billion during the war with Iran
The United States lost part of its stock of MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), with a total cost of about $1 billion, during the conflict with Iran. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 21.
"Since the beginning of the war, Iran has destroyed more than two dozen MQ-9 Reaper drones operated by American forces, which is a significant loss of almost $1 billion and accounts for 20% of the Pentagon's pre—war reserve for a difficult-to-replace unmanned system," the publication says.
It is specified that the US Air Force (Air Force) lost at least 24 MQ-9 Reaper drones, and taking into account the damaged and later decommissioned UAVs, the number may increase to 30. Many drones were shot down by Iran in the air, while others were destroyed on the ground as a result of strikes or accidents.
Bloomberg notes that the MQ-9 Reaper drones are no longer being manufactured for the US Armed Forces, and the cost of one such device is about $ 30 million.
According to the Iran War Cost Tracker (IWCT) online resource, the US costs of conducting a military operation in the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) exceeded $77 billion. According to him, the first six days of the operation cost Washington $11.3 billion. It is noted that the calculation takes into account the costs of maintaining personnel, ships deployed to the region, as well as other related expenses.
