The United States announced Trump's refusal to seize Greenland
US President Donald Trump is no longer considering the possibility of using force against Greenland. This was announced on May 22 by the US Ambassador to Denmark, Kenneth Howery.
"The president is no longer considering the use of force. <...> The future of Greenland should be determined by the Greenlanders themselves," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The diplomat noted that he was optimistic about the work of the Greenland group. According to him, she can find a solution that takes into account the concerns of the White House in the field of security, as well as the position of Greenland and Denmark. Howery added that such a decision should open up wide economic opportunities for the island's residents.
The BBC television company, citing sources, reported on May 12 that the United States is regularly negotiating with Denmark to expand its military presence in Greenland, including the construction of new American bases. According to the interlocutors, American officials are seeking to open three new bases in the south of the island. The White House confirmed to the BBC that the administration is in high-level talks with Greenland and Denmark, but did not disclose details.
