- Russia's Permanent Representative to the OSCE spoke about Russia's response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' assistance in attacks on Russia
Russia will take measures through the competent authorities in response to the permission of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to use the airspace for attacks on the Russian Federation. Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), told Izvestia on May 21.
"We raise [the topic of using airspace for strikes against Russia] regularly, including today. It causes an interesting reaction, they rush to deny it. I think measures will be taken by the competent authorities. Actions, of course, will have an impact, but there are almost no relations now — it's difficult to worsen what can't be worse now," Polyansky said.
The day before, representatives of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) revealed Kiev's plans to launch its drones from the Baltic states. Such a step, as noted, will allow them to show the West their alleged "combat readiness." The ministry clarified that the Ukrainian militants had already gone to Latvia for these purposes, where they were stationed at the military bases "Adazi", "Celia", "Lielvard", "Daugavpils" and "Jekabpils".
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with Izvestia on May 20, noted that the Russian military was closely monitoring the situation with drones flying through the Baltic States and was preparing the necessary response from Moscow. The main task, he stressed, is to ensure the safety of citizens of the Russian Federation and its industrial infrastructure.
