Crimean resident sentenced to 17 years in prison for treason

In Crimea, a 42-year-old Russian man who worked in the interests of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was sentenced to 17 years in prison for high treason. This was reported on May 21 in the press service of the regional prosecutor's office.

"Pavel Kucheryavenko, Deputy Prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea, supported the state prosecution in a criminal case against a 42-year-old resident of the Dzhankoy district. He was found guilty of committing high treason. <...> The court sentenced the man to 17 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony with restriction of liberty for 1 year and 6 months," the agency said in a message on the Maks messenger.

It is specified that the citizen of the Russian Federation was an opponent of the special military operation (SVO). He independently entered into correspondence with a representative of the SBU on one of the social networks. The attacker received a task from the Ukrainian curator, according to which he was supposed to collect information about the deployment of weapons, equipment and defensive structures of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

Krymchanin prepared the materials throughout 2024. At that time, he recorded military aircraft and vehicles, and then sent the resulting footage to Kiev. These images were later used against Russian interests.

The criminal's activities were stopped by employees of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

The day before, the Crimean prosecutor's office reported that two residents of the peninsula had been convicted of espionage in favor of the SBU and treason. The couple, consisting of a Russian and a Ukrainian citizen, worked in the interests of Kiev. For this, the man received 17 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high—security penal colony with subsequent restriction of liberty for 1 year and 8 months, and his companion received 15 years in prison, which she will serve in a general regime penal colony.
