The ninth squall: how the "Terminators" participate in the storming of fortified areas
Terminator tank Support Combat vehicles (BMPT) have begun using new tactics when storming fortified areas. The vehicles advance to the enemy's positions and quickly fire on fortifications and manpower, and then withdraw. All this takes place under the cover of tanks firing from a distance of several kilometers. Experts note that such tactics make it possible to more effectively suppress defenses and support the advance of assault units. The barrage of fire created by the Terminators causes serious damage to infantry in positions already suppressed by tanks.
They beat you on the move
In the course of combat work, tank and BMPT crews using new tactics should act as smoothly as possible. With this scheme, tanks are the first to enter the battle — from a distance of up to 15 km, they fire from closed firing positions from powerful 125-mm guns at fortifications and pillboxes. After the enemy's fortifications are seriously destroyed, the BMPT comes into play. They are rolling out to the enemy's positions, finishing off the infantry, sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia.
A barrage of fire will be provided by two twin 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannons and automatic grenade launchers,
support vehicles in service. They are capable of hitting not only manpower and vehicles, but also light armored vehicles.
Moreover, the strikes are delivered on the move — the car must quickly and efficiently work out and escape before it falls into the sights of enemy drones. The tanks and BMPT tanks themselves also operate in close conjunction with drones engaged in reconnaissance and targeting, the interlocutors noted.
Before the start of the special military operation, it was believed that the Terminators would act together with tanks at the forefront of the attack, protecting them from enemy anti-tank weapons and destroying infantry, but the appearance of a large number of small tactical drones made us think about new tactics for support vehicles, said military expert Yuri Lyamin.
— Now the enemy has the opportunity to use a large number of small drones against one car, — the expert noted. — And they will not spare them for the destruction of BMPT. The machine, having appeared on the front line, will certainly become a priority target for drone operators of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
To increase the effectiveness of such attacks, it is necessary to completely isolate the area from enemy drones, the expert believes.
— Electronic warfare systems and actively developing air defense drones are used for this purpose, — said Yuri Lyamin. — Our army has started using several models. Among them is the Yelka interceptor drone, which effectively fights FPV drones and larger Baba Yaga-type vehicles, which can carry several powerful munitions at once and, of course, pose a danger to heavy armored vehicles.
In modern combat, even when conducting a local operation, all forces and means must be involved. Aviation and artillery should provide support for the actions of tanks and BMPT.
"In the end, everything is decided by the infantry," the expert noted. — Until she finishes off the enemy and enters the fortified area, it cannot be called taken.
The future of BMPT
The improvement of the tactics of using BMPT will continue. This is due to the increased firepower of the vehicle and a new level of versatility, military experts believe.
On the battlefield, the Terminators can be tasked with solving many tasks. Everything depends only on their equipment and the objectives of the operation, military expert Alexei Leonkov told Izvestia.
"In the future, the BMPT will need an uninhabited combat module with the transition to a 57—mm cannon, and instead of passive grill grilles, full-fledged active protection," he believes.
There are probably various modernization options for the vehicle: one of its variants may specialize in manpower and light armored vehicles. The other one will turn into a short—range air defense vehicle. They will have to deal with swarms of FPV drones, from which our tanks suffer greatly, the expert explained.
Tankers use a "fiery roll"
The tactics of Russian ground units are constantly being improved during their military operations. In particular, the concept of using tanks is being revised, the most effective techniques are being sought, and the experience gained during combat operations is being systematized.
Now the Russian tankers have begun to actively use tactics called "fire attack," Izvestia wrote.
The new tactic provides for the coordinated work of tank pairs: one of them fires from a closed position, and the second goes to a neutral zone for direct fire.
The crews fire on the move, after which they quickly change their position, coming to the front line from a different direction. This requires high coordination, fast shooting, and consideration of many factors, from terrain to weather conditions.
This approach makes it possible to effectively break into enemy defenses and fortified areas, making it difficult to retaliate.
The tactic has already proven its effectiveness in destroying strongholds and supporting assault units. Its development continues at the rear ranges, where tankers improve their skills of interaction and maneuvering in conditions close to combat.
