Nutritionist, PhD, doctor of preventive integrative medicine Rimma Moisenko on Wednesday, May 20, told whether dietary supplements can affect life expectancy.

In an interview with Radio 1, the expert noted that, knowing their genetic characteristics, many seek to find a quick path to health and begin to replace regular food with biologically active additives. According to her, there is a movement of biohackers who practice extremely low—calorie diets - about 500-600 kcal per day, where greens and vegetables form the basis of the diet, and the rest is replenished with dietary supplements and protein shakes.

The doctor stressed that such approaches are erroneous, since dietary supplements cannot replace proper nutrition. She explained that the microbiota plays an important role in the body — a collection of microorganisms in the intestine that cannot be "fed" with supplements, since they only help deliver vitamins and minerals to cells, but do not replace food.

The day before, economist Peter Shcherbachenko warned about fraudulent schemes for the sale of dietary supplements on the Internet. Attackers create vibrant websites, run ads and promise a "miracle effect", reinforcing this with fake reviews - as a result, the buyer receives a useless product or nothing at all, writes RT.

Alexey Koitov, Chairman of the Consumer Union of Russia, told the National Assembly on May 15 that the use of illegal dietary supplements could be fatal or negatively affect human health in the long term.

Analyst Sergey Shulyak spoke on May 5 about the appearance of certain criteria for prescribing dietary supplements by a doctor. According to him, doctors are more likely to recommend rather than prescribe such drugs, as the criteria for prescribing are still vague. 360.ru .

In February, coach Elizaveta Romanikhina told Izvestia how to strengthen the immune system without dietary supplements. According to her, physical activity, sleep and nutrition will help in this.
