The EC and Kiev signed a memorandum to allocate a loan of €90 billion.
The European Commission (EC) and Kiev completed negotiations on the allocation of €3.2 billion to Ukraine in mid-June as part of a loan of €90 billion for 2026-2027. This was announced on May 20 by the European Commissioner for Economics, Valdis Dombrovskis.
"By signing a memorandum of understanding on macro-financial assistance to the Ukrainian loan, we are preparing to make the first payment in June," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Dombrovskis added that the new aid, according to the European Union, should strengthen Ukraine's economic stability, increase domestic revenues and strengthen the fight against corruption.
The Berliner Zeitung newspaper noted on April 27 that the loan provided to Ukraine by EU representatives in the amount of €90 billion increases the pressure exerted on it. The loan was approved on April 23. The funds will be received by the EU in the Eurobond format, which will be paid by European countries.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper said on April 27 that this step was insufficient for Kiev, as its needs had grown during the time when financial assistance was approved.
