On May 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced new ambitious goals for the development of Russian-Chinese cooperation.

"Today's talks with the President of [China] Xi Jinping was very productive and helpful. <...> Together with Mr. Chairman, we set new ambitious goals for the qualitative development of Russian-Chinese cooperation," RIA Novosti quoted Putin as saying.

The Head of State added that a package of documents was also signed, which set out common approaches and areas of work "in all important areas." According to him, relations between Russia and China are developing dynamically for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.

On the same day, after talks with Xi Jinping, the Russian president announced that the agreements between Moscow and Beijing were aimed at the economy. His interlocutor added that the trade exchange between Russia and China has exceeded the $200 billion mark for the third year in a row. During this meeting, the parties signed 21 agreements. The signed documents included, among other things, a Statement on strengthening comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.
