The Federation Council allowed the Russian Armed Forces to be involved in the protection of Russians arrested abroad.

Representatives of the Federation Council (SF) of the Russian Federation have approved a law allowing military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to be involved in the protection of Russian citizens who have been arrested abroad without Russia's participation in this process. This was confirmed on May 20 by the relevant documents on the website of the legislative support system.

Permits and recommendations to approve the relevant one were received from representatives of the Federation Council Committees on Defense and Security, International affairs and constitutional legislation, and state construction.

"The Federal Law under consideration establishes additional measures to protect the Russian Federation and its citizens in the event that foreign and (or) international (interstate) bodies (organizations) make decisions or take actions that contradict the interests of the Russian Federation and (or) the foundations of the public order of the Russian Federation," the Constitutional Committee said in its conclusion.

The resolutions were drawn up as part of the preliminary review of the law by the responsible commissions. The project is still being reviewed.

This law was adopted by deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the second and third readings on May 13. In accordance with the initiative, the authors of the bill propose to enable the head of state to direct the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to protect Russians from prosecution by foreign and international courts without Russia's participation.
