Fraudsters began stealing money from Russians on behalf of theaters, offering to purchase allegedly "rejected tickets." This was announced on May 20 in the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in the Telegram channel.

According to the agency, the attackers are tracking more active users on websites and in themed theater chats, including in the Telegram messenger. First of all, attention is paid to people who discuss performances and complain about difficulties with buying tickets.

After that, the scammers contact the potential victim on behalf of the theater and offer to purchase so-called "waiver tickets." At the same time, for payment, they send a link to a fake website that looks like a well-known ticket aggregator. Then, under the pretext of a technical glitch, the scammers convince the person to re-transfer the money.

On the same day, the expert of the "Popular Front. Galaktion Kuchava analyst said that scammers send messages on behalf of well-known airlines and Russian Railways, offering to buy tickets at low prices or confirm a reservation. Kuchava warned that there is usually a phishing link inside such messages. It leads to a fake website, which visually almost does not differ from the official airline or Russian Railways resource.
