A joint press conference between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the results of the Russian-Chinese talks was held in Beijing. The parties announced the strengthening of a comprehensive partnership, the signing of a large package of documents and the preparation of a joint declaration on a multipolar world. The main statement of the leaders is in the Izvestia article.

Putin's statements

The Russian leader thanked Xi Jinping and the Chinese side for the reception and noted that the visit was taking place in an anniversary year for Russian-Chinese relations. He called the Agreement on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation a solid foundation for the development of partnership between the two countries.

The Russian president said that Russian-Chinese relations have reached an "unprecedented level" and do not depend on the current global situation. According to Putin, the talks were held in a warm, friendly and constructive atmosphere, and as a result, a large package of intergovernmental, interdepartmental and corporate documents was concluded — about 40 in total.

Putin said that in 2025, the trade turnover between Russia and China reached almost $240 billion. He emphasized the transition of mutual settlements to national currencies.

"Almost all Russian-Chinese export-import operations are carried out in rubles and yuan," the Russian president said.

Putin named energy as one of the main areas of cooperation. He noted that Russia remains one of the largest suppliers of oil, gas, LNG and coal to the Chinese market. In addition, he pointed to Rosatom's work in China, the construction of Russian-designed power units at the Tianwan NPP and the Xudapu NPP, as well as the prospects for joint projects in low-carbon energy.

Putin also spoke about industrial cooperation, the production of Chinese-made cars in Russia, projects in metallurgy, the chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, aircraft construction, space and biotechnology. Separately, he highlighted the development of transport and logistics routes, the modernization of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the BAM, as well as the expansion of the infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route.

In the humanitarian sphere, the President noted the growth of tourist flows. According to him, in 2025, more than 2 million Russians visited China, and over 1 million Chinese citizens visited Russia. Russia and China are also launching cross-years of cooperation in the field of education.

Putin said that the sides exchanged views on the international agenda and adopted a joint declaration confirming the proximity of Moscow and Beijing's approaches. He stressed that Russia and China stand up for international law and the UN Charter and continue to cooperate in the SCO, BRICS, G20, WTO, IMF, World Bank and the New Development Bank.

Xi Jinping's statements

Xi Jinping noted the special nature of Russian-Chinese relations and stressed that Putin is visiting China for the 25th time. According to him, this in itself indicates a high level of trust between the two countries.

The Chinese leader said that the talks with the Russian president were "in-depth, friendly and fruitful." As a result, the parties signed a joint statement on further strengthening comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation, as well as concluded a package of documents on bilateral cooperation.

Xi Jinping recalled that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Sino-Russian partnership and strategic cooperation, as well as the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation. He stressed that relations between the two countries are at a historic peak and have become "an example of a new type of relations between major powers."

"This world is completely restless, the damage caused by unilateral actions and hegemony is off the scale. A return to the law of the jungle is in danger," the Chinese president said.

Xi Jinping highlighted political mutual trust, trade, energy, digital economy, artificial intelligence, technological innovation, education, youth exchanges and scientific projects among the key areas of cooperation. According to him, the trade turnover between Russia and China has exceeded $200 billion for the third year in a row, and increased by about 20% in January–April this year.

He also said that China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, should protect the organization's authority, international justice and counteract unilateralism, hegemony, as well as attempts to revise the outcome of the Second World War.
