The threat of direct escalation between Russia and the Baltic countries of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) is quite real. This was stated to Izvestia by MGIMO Professor, Doctor of Political Sciences Kirill Koktysh.

"The question now arises not about shooting down unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), but about striking their launch sites. This means that we are getting close enough to a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO. I think they just don't leave us any other reality. The whole question now is whether the Balts and those behind them will wake up to common sense, whether they will be able to realize the consequences of their actions," the expert stressed.

Earlier, the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation reported that Ukraine plans to launch UAVs from the territory of the Baltic States. The statement emphasizes that military personnel of the Forces of Unmanned Systems (UAVs) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have already been sent to Latvia, who have been deployed at the military bases Adazi, Celia, Lielvard, Daugavpils and Jekabpils.

At the same time, on May 12, the InfoBRICS portal wrote that the provision by NATO countries of their airspace to the drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation is tantamount to declaring war on Russia. Sooner or later, Moscow's patience will run out, which will lead to a response to such actions, the author of the publication warned.
