Russian mortars knocked out the "Loaf" of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the move

In the zone of the special military operation (SVO), one of the guns actively used by Russian fighters is a 120-millimeter mortar with an aiming range of 5.5 km. It is used to destroy manpower and fortifications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), as well as light armored vehicles. In an interview with Izvestia, the mortar men of the reconnaissance and assault brigade "Wolves", which is part of the Volunteer Corps of the Southern Group of Forces, told about their combat work.

The mortar men praise the gun for its accuracy and lightness. According to them, it can be used alone or together without additional help. In addition, it does not overheat.

"In 2024, we hit the Loaf on the move. She was driving at night. Our men were blown up, we ran, quickly aimed, imposed a mine, threw a barrel and, accordingly, hit. There was also a case when we suppressed a machine gunner who was hindering the advance of our assault group. After that, the guys brought us lemonade, a couple of chocolates and captured chevrons," said the platoon commander of an artillery battalion mortar battery with the call sign Mojito in an interview with Izvestia correspondent Egor Kildibekov.

The fighter noted that it is not easy for mortar men to work in conditions of "full sky" — at about the third or fourth mine, the enemy begins to strike back. The outcome depends on how well the mortar man equipped his position. Also, nearby colleagues warn about drone attacks, which allows you to get to the shelter in time.

"The projectile weighs 16 kg, its diameter is 120 mm. The damage radius is more than a hundred meters. The most effective radius is about 50 m. Nothing remains alive in this area when hit," the correspondent noted.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the attack aircraft of the Vostok group of forces had cleared the AFU stronghold in the Zaporizhia region. Operators of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have uncovered a stronghold and an active machine-gun emplacement of Ukrainian formations. The coordinates of the identified targets were promptly transferred to the mortar crews to ensure the safe advance of the Russian infantry.
