Baikal Electronics has announced the release of special chips for AI by 2030

The Russian company Baikal Electronics plans to develop two specialized chips for artificial intelligence (AI) by 2029-2030. This was announced on May 18 by the company's CEO Andrey Evdokimov in an interview with the CNews Internet portal.

At the same time, the models must be compatible with the software created for the solutions of the American Nvidia. According to Evdokimov, the Baikal-AI-E1000 processor will be an analog of Nvidia Jetson Orin NX and will be designed for peripheral devices, not for data centers. The second product is the Baikal—AI-D1000 discrete server graphics accelerator, which is supposed to replace Nvidia L40S.

It is noted that the projects are at different stages of development. Within three to four years, the company expects to present a ready-made hardware and software package for national data centers focused on AI tasks.

In March, the Nebius Group, founded by Arkady Volozh, the former head of Yandex, entered into a long-term agreement with Meta (Meta corporation's activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) to supply infrastructure for AI. As part of the five-year agreement, Nebius will provide Meta with $12 billion in dedicated capacity in several locations, using one of the first large-scale NVIDIA Vera Rubin platforms. The contract is aimed at accelerating the development and growth of the main cloud business of the Russian Federation in the field of AI.
