The media reported on the concern of the West in connection with the strengthening of relations between the Russian Federation and China

Western politicians are alarmed by the strengthening of relations between Russia and China. This was reported on May 18 by The Guardian newspaper.

"The deepening of relations between China and Russia is causing concern in the West, especially after Moscow launched a special operation in Ukraine in 2022 <...> The two leaders have met more than 40 times, which significantly exceeds the number of meetings [of the Chinese president] Xi Jinping with Western leaders," the article says.

The authors of the article clarified that against the background of the "disastrous" summit of US President Donald Trump and Xi, the density of economic and political interaction between Moscow and Beijing seems frightening to Western politicians. It is emphasized that the volume of trade between the countries has reached a record high since 2022, with China accounting for a quarter of Russian fuel exports.

Earlier in the day, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that the foreign policy positions of Russia and China largely coincide. According to him, the relations between the two countries have the character of a comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation. At the same time, countries are not friends against anyone, but for the sake of universal peace and prosperity.

Prior to this, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that Beijing intends to continue to promote bilateral relations with Moscow to a higher level. Commenting on Putin's upcoming visit to China, Guo Jiakun stressed that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Russian partnership and strategic relations, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the treaty on good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation.
