There is no connection between the visits of the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, to China. This was announced on May 18 by the assistant to the Russian leader, Yuri Ushakov.

"It should be noted that there is no connection between the visits of Trump and Putin. We usually agree on a plan for negotiations with the Chinese in advance. Our president and President [of China Xi Jinping], as usual, have a telephone conversation or video contact at the beginning of the year, and during this conversation, the results of this contact are discussed," he said at a briefing.

Ushakov explained that Trump's visit was originally planned for late March or early April, but due to the war in Iran, it was postponed to May 13-15, right on the eve of Putin's already agreed visit to Beijing. After the conversation between the leaders of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China on February 4, a few days later, the Russian side agreed on the date of the visit to the Chinese capital — May 20.

According to the Russian presidential aide, during the official visit, Putin will discuss with Xi Jinping "the whole range of bilateral relations." The results of the trip, Ushakov stressed, will strengthen ties between the two countries.

On May 16, the Kremlin announced that Putin would pay an official visit to China on May 19 and 20 at the invitation of Xi Jinping. This trip will be timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, which is fundamental for bilateral relations.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on May 18 that the delegation that will accompany Putin to China will include deputy prime ministers, many ministers, as well as company executives. According to the press secretary of the Russian leader, Moscow has "the most serious expectations" from this visit.
