In the north-east of Lithuania, the wreckage of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which probably belonged to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), was discovered. This was announced on May 17 by the head of the National Crisis Management Center Vilmantas Vitkauskas.

"Judging by the preliminary data, judging by the wreckage, information received from colleagues, <...> it is most likely a Ukrainian drone," LRT quoted him as saying.

The services are currently investigating the circumstances, assessing the situation at the scene and ensuring the safety of the area. More detailed information will be provided as the facts are verified and confirmed, the publication notes.

Residents are asked to stay away from the scene of the accident and the find, and not to move the object or its debris.

On May 12, Asta Skaisgirite, Adviser to the President of the Baltic Republic on foreign Policy, said that Lithuania would not allow UAVs from other countries to fly over its territory. The adviser explained that drones from third countries do not necessarily mean Ukrainian drones. These may be other states that are not Lithuania's allies.
