Verstappen's team dropped out of the race due to technical problems
The team of four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen from the Netherlands dropped out of the 24 Hours of Nurburgring endurance race (Germany) due to technical problems. This was announced on May 17 by the Motorsport portal.
Before the technical problem, which occurred about three hours before the finish, the crew consisting of Verstappen, Spaniard Daniel Hunkadeli, Frenchman Jules Gounon and Austrian Lucas Auer was leading the race.
"We talked to Max, we talked to the other drivers, and of course everyone is very disappointed, especially after fighting for the lead for so long. But we decided that we would fix the car and go out on the track for the last laps to present it to the fans," said team principal Stefan Wendl.
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli won the main race of the fourth stage of the Formula 1 championship, the Miami Grand Prix in the USA, on May 3. The second position was taken by McLaren driver and current Formula 1 champion Lando Norris, losing 2.728 seconds to the leader. Oscar Piastri, his teammate, rounded out the top three, 26.722 seconds behind the winner.
