Rospotrebnadzor has ruled out the risk of Ebola spreading in Russia

There is currently no risk of Ebola spreading in Russia. This was reported in the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.

"The situation is under the control of Rospotrebnadzor," the department's channel noted in the Maks messenger.

According to Africa CDC data dated May 15, 2026, an outbreak of Ebola virus disease has been recorded in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. 246 suspicious cases were reported, 65 of which were fatal. Most cases have been detected in the health zones of Mongwalu and Rwampara, and possible infections have also been reported in the city of Bunia.

Rospotrebnadzor clarified that experts monitor the epidemiological situation in the world around the clock. As part of the federal Sanitary Shield project, enhanced sanitary and quarantine control is in effect at all checkpoints, and an automated Perimeter system is used to assess risks.

The Agency also continues to cooperate with African countries in monitoring dangerous infections, including Ebola, Lassa and Marburg. Joint research centers and mobile anti-epidemic laboratories are operating on the continent, which makes it possible to quickly identify threats and reduce the risk of international spread of infections.

On May 15, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda an international emergency. The organization points to significant uncertainty about the actual number of cases and the extent of the spread of the virus.
