Former Deputy Defense Minister Ivanov was allowed to visit his mother

Moscow's Simonovsky Court has allowed former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who is in jail in a 1.3 billion ruble bribery case, to visit his mother and wife. His lawyer told about it on May 17.

"The court allowed Timur Vadimovich to visit his mother and wife, now we are waiting for the answer from the Lefortovo pre—trial detention center when it allows it," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

The lawyer also said that the former official, while under arrest, reads a lot of books. He cited the example of Metropolitan Tikhon's work "The Fall of the Empire."

The Moscow City Court began to consider the merits of the case of the former deputy defense Minister.

Ivanov was detained on April 23, 2024 in connection with charges of accepting a bribe. According to the investigation, he entered into a criminal conspiracy with the heads of contractors who worked at the facilities of the Ministry of Defense, and concluded contracts with them in exchange for personal rewards. In July, the former deputy minister was sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined 100 million rubles.

A participant in the trial informed Izvestia on April 24 that Ivanov had pleaded not guilty in the second criminal case. In addition to him, Alexander Fomin, the co-founder of the Olimpcitystroy company, is in the dock, accused of paying a particularly large bribe. The third person involved in the case, businessman Sergei Borodin, pleaded guilty and entered into a pre—trial agreement, his case was separated into a separate proceeding.
