The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda an international emergency. This was reported on the organization's website on May 15.

"The Director-General of WHO, after consultations with participating States <...>, hereby determines that Ebola, caused by the Bundibugio virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, constitutes a public health emergency of international importance," reads a statement issued by WHO. The organization emphasizes that we are talking about an epidemic, but not a pandemic.
