The decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the simplified admission to Russian citizenship of residents of Transnistria was a response to the actions of Moldova, which restricts the actions of the embassy. This was announced on May 16 by the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Valery Litskai.

"The decree of the President of Russia on simplified admission to Russian citizenship will greatly facilitate the work of the Russian Embassy in Moldova, which is being blocked by President Maia Sandu and the government of her ruling Action and Solidarity Party," he said in an interview with TASS.
