The expert named ways to get rid of ants in the country
It is a systematic approach to maintaining order in the house and in the countryside, rather than a one-time cleaning, that will get rid of ants in the room. This was announced on May 15 by Alexander Chikin, Director for Sustainable Development and Digitalization of the Save the Forest eco-service, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
"The first step is to eliminate the causes of insects. It is necessary to carefully clean the room, store food in airtight containers, take out the trash in a timely manner and do not leave sweet or greasy pieces on the surfaces — it is better not to leave any at all. In the country, it is important to monitor the condition of the soil, prevent the accumulation of organic waste and control humidity. By the way, all this helps against cockroaches," he said.
The next stage of insect control is the use of various chemicals. At the same time, one should not hope for effectiveness and long-term effect when referring to popular folk methods of getting rid of ants.
The expert advised using slow-acting baits. The worker ants will take them to the colony, after which the poison will affect the entire nest, including the uterus. This remedy works more effectively than an aerosol, which only temporarily relieves summer residents of the problem.
"Barrier methods are also used, for example, the treatment of baseboards and entrance areas with special compounds. Some popular folk methods, despite their prevalence, do not give sustainable results. Compounds with pungent odors, such as vinegar or essential oils, can only scare away ants for a while, but they do not destroy the source of the problem. Smells can scare you off too, so be careful. As a result, the insects simply change their route and continue to exist nearby," Chikin said.
Sometimes, after disinfection and the application of all means, ants may reappear after a while. This means that the insect colony has not been completely destroyed. In this regard, all procedures should be repeated once again, and in case of large-scale insect damage, it is better to seek the services of professionals.
"In this case, it is necessary to repeat the treatment and at the same time eliminate all the factors that attract insects. In case of large—scale infections, experts advise to turn to professional disinfection, especially if we are talking about apartment buildings where the hearth may be with neighbors," the expert advised.
On July 7 last year, Maria Zolotareva, senior lecturer at the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy at RTU MIREA, told Russians about the danger of dacha insects to humans. Cockroaches on their paws and body can carry pathogens of salmonellosis, dysentery and fungal infections. Due to the fact that products can be stored leaky in a country house, there is always a risk of infection. Wasps and hornets pose a danger to those who are allergic to their venom.
