Lavrov called for expanding the number of members of the UN Security Council

Russia firmly supports the expansion of the representation of states in the UN Security Council and supports the aspirations of Brazil and India to become permanent members. This was stated on May 15 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting of BRICS ministers in New Delhi.

"We are firmly in favor of expanding the representation of the world's majority states in the UN Security Council, and we confirm our support for the aspirations of Brazil and India to gain permanent residence," Lavrov said.

He called unacceptable the situation in which the G7 countries, which account for less than a third of global production, continue to determine the policy of the United Nations, when the BRICS countries produce more than 40% of global output and do not have comparable influence.
