Canada beat Sweden in the opening match of the Ice Hockey World Championship

The Canadian national team defeated the Swedish team in their first group stage match of the Ice Hockey World Championship, which is being held in Switzerland. The match ended on May 15 with a score of 5:3.

John Tavares, Ryan O'Reilly, Dylan Holloway, Connor Brown and Dylan Cozens scored for the Canadians. Jakob Larsson, Lucas Raymond and Matthias Ekholm scored for the Swedish national team.

After the victory, Canada scored three points and came out on top in Group B. Sweden started the tournament without scoring points. In the next match, the Canadian team will play Italy on May 16, and the Swedes will face Denmark on May 17.

A total of 16 teams are participating in the World Cup, divided into two groups. Following the round-robin stage, the top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, while the worst teams will leave the elite division.

The final list of three contenders includes Swedish defender of the Buffalo Sabres Rasmus Dahlin, Swedish striker of the Colorado Avalanche Gabriel Landeskog and Canadian forward of the Winnipeg Jets Jonathan Taves.
