The cardiologist named the main risks of high blood pressure
Deviation from the level of normal blood pressure increases the risk of hypertensive crises, heart attacks, strokes, and damage to target organs (heart, kidneys, blood vessels, eyes, and brain). Denis Prokofiev, a cardiologist with the status of "Moscow Doctor", warned about this on May 17 in an interview with Izvestia. However, despite the fact that the average indicator of normal blood pressure, accepted all over the world, is the classic "120 over 80", there is no single parameter that would be suitable for absolutely everyone.
"For example, hypotonics, for whom the usual pressure is 90 over 60, will feel very bad with an average indicator. Theoretically, we doctors take the numbers 120 to 80, but in each individual case we take into account the individual norm," the specialist explained.
In particular, doctors have their own approach to people who are overweight, tall, or who are engaged in heavy physical labor, because their blood pressure may exceed the generally accepted norm. With a large body weight, for example, blood volume and vascular resistance may increase. In this case, it is impossible to bring down the pressure to the average values — this will lead to hypoxia, general weakness and insufficient blood supply, the editorial interlocutor warned.
