In the first four months of this year, 9288 used passenger cars (older than three years) were imported from South Korea to Russia. This is more than two times (-59.4%) less than in January-April last year, when shipments totaled almost 22.9 thousand units. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on May 15.

As the expert explained, such results are primarily related to changes in the rules for calculating the recycling fee for cars with a capacity of over 160 hp, since they were the basis for imports to Russia. At the same time, the selection of interesting low-power cars in South Korea is not as large as in China, so there has been a reorientation of import channels.

More than half of the volume of cars supplied to Russia from South Korea accounted for local brands — Kia (31.2% share), Hyundai (17.5%), Samsung (8.5%), as well as locally assembled Chevrolet (7.8%). European brands include Volkswagen, BMW, Mini, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and others.

Kia K5 and Kia K3 were the most popular in the model rating. Behind them are two Hyundai — Sonata and Avante. This is followed by the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Samsung QM6 and Volkswagen Tiguan. The Samsung XM3 and two more Kia Seltos and Picanto rounded out the top ten.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the import of used cars from China to Russia has increased 2.4 times this year. The most popular used car imported from China was the Toyota Corolla.
