- Narcologist dispelled the myth about the medicinal properties of alcohol for hypertensive patients
Vitaly Holdin, a psychiatrist and narcologist at the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, dispelled the myth about the medicinal properties of alcohol for hypertensive patients.
According to the doctor, alcohol, which is sometimes considered a "folk remedy" for lowering blood pressure, can be dangerous to health. Alcohol does have a short-term effect due to vasodilation, but then the pressure rises, Radio 1 reported on Friday, May 15.
The specialist noted that after this, the heart rate increases, the vessels narrow sharply, and fluid retention occurs, which increases the load on the heart. In addition, regular consumption of even small doses of alcohol can maintain high blood pressure for several days.
The doctor stressed that for people with hypertension, this method of "treatment" is especially dangerous, as it increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes, notes 360.ru .
Earlier on May 15, immunologist Vladimir Bolibok, in an interview with RT, said that the issue of a safe dose of alcohol remains controversial, but WHO and leading medical centers believe that it does not exist. The doctor clarified that even low alcohol consumption is fraught with risks.
On the eve of May 14, nutritionist Daria Kiselyova warned about the dangers of coffee and alcohol for the digestive tract. The doctor noted that caffeine weakens the valve between the esophagus and stomach and increases acid production, increasing its discharge and irritation of the mucous membrane. Alcoholic beverages have a similar effect, NSN notes. The specialist added that onions and garlic can also cause discomfort: they irritate the mucous membrane of the esophagus and increase its sensitivity. kp.ru .
Earlier, cardiologist Elizaveta Skorodumova warned that alcohol can have a significant impact on health, and there are certain conditions in which its use is strictly contraindicated. Jaundice of the skin and eyes, pain in the right hypochondrium, swelling, fatigue and nausea may indicate liver problems — in such cases, alcohol is strictly contraindicated.
