Moldova's withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will have negative consequences for the citizens of the republic. This was announced on May 15 by the Russian Foreign Ministry following a meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Heads of Legal Services of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the CIS member states.

"The negative consequences of such an exit for Moldovan citizens have been noted, since this country will not be able to remain a party to documents of limited composition, that is, open only to CIS member states," the publication says on the agency's website.

It is noted that the meeting considered the issue of launching procedures related to Moldova's withdrawal from the commonwealth. In particular, an inventory of international treaties and decisions of the bodies in which Chisinau participates was carried out.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on April 16 that Russia regrets the decision of the Moldovan authorities to officially withdraw from the CIS.

On April 15, Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popshoi announced that Moldova had sent an official notification of withdrawal from the organization to the CIS secretariat in Minsk. According to the established procedures, the republic will finally leave the CIS on April 8, 2027.
