Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who is in prison in the United States, is being held in an overcrowded cell along with 18 other prisoners. His son, Venezuelan MP Nicolas Maduro Guerra, announced this in an interview with the German magazine Der Spiegel on May 14.

"At the very beginning, when he was still in solitary confinement, he worked out for an hour every morning <... I kept a diary, wrote down everything that came to mind. Since Easter week, he has been in a shared cell with 18 other prisoners. He talks to them, watches TV," said Maduro Jr.

At the same time, he stressed that for some time among the cellmates of the Venezuelan president was the American rapper Daniel Hernandez, known under the pseudonym Tekashi 6ix9ine. According to Maduro's son, he is gradually learning English, communicating with his cellmates.

The ABC broadcasting network reported on March 12 that Maduro was being held in a Brooklyn prison detention center. It is noted that nominally this isolation ward is supposed to protect prisoners from the risk zone and "prevent suicide," but in fact, detention in it means almost complete isolation.

In January, after Maduro's detention, the U.S. Department of Justice also announced charges not only against the politician and his wife, but also against their son, Nicolas Ernesto Maduro Guerra. According to the US Department of Justice, the Venezuelan leadership and his inner circle allegedly built a system of large-scale corruption directly related to drug trafficking.
