Reuters has learned about the appeal of the Iraqi authorities for help from the IMF
Iraqi officials have appealed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial assistance in connection with the war in Iran. This was reported on May 14 by the Reuters news agency, citing a source.
"The initial negotiations took place last month during the spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington. Discussions about how much financing Iraq will need and how any loan will be structured are ongoing," the article says.
The authors of the article note that Iraq has suffered greatly from the war. It clarifies that most of the oil exports were stopped due to the closure of the most important waterway, which transported about one fifth of the world's crude oil.
The day before, the International Energy Agency (IEA) indicated a deterioration in the forecast for global oil production in 2026. The situation, as explained, is developing due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. Due to the military events in the region, the global supply of raw materials may decrease by 8 million bpd this month.
