Peskov called the United States the only real intermediaries between Russia and Ukraine.

The United States is actually the only mediator between Russia and Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this on May 14, commenting on the statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that only Washington can mediate in negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.

"In fact, so far the United States is the only mediator. This is a workflow, a working format. <... It is obvious that the Europeans do not want and cannot become intermediaries," he said.

Peskov added that the Europeans are now actually participating in the war on the side of the Kiev regime and are the guardians of the idea of inflicting a crushing defeat on Russia.

The day before, Peskov noted that the condition for Russia and Ukraine to begin negotiations on a peaceful settlement is a complete cease-fire, which must be ordered by the Kiev authorities. He clarified that dialogue on this issue is constantly conducted with representatives of the United States, which act as the only channel of communication between Moscow and Kiev.

On May 12, the Presidents of Slovakia, Austria and the Czech Republic, Peter Pellegrini, Alexander van der Bellen and Peter Pavel, supported the establishment of a dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Russia. Pellegrini, at a meeting in the Slavkov format, noted that the EU cannot wait until the United States alone leads the discussion on ending the conflict.
