Iran allows passage of Chinese ships through the Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian authorities have allowed a number of Chinese vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz within the framework of the current Iranian strait management protocol. This was announced on May 14 by Fars in its Telegram channel.

"According to an informed source, the Islamic Republic has decided to allow a number of Chinese vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the Iranian protocol on strait management," the publication says.

According to the source, the decision was made after consultations with the Chinese Foreign Minister and the Chinese ambassador to Tehran. He noted that the Iranian side has taken measures to simplify the passage of Chinese vessels, taking into account the strategic partnership and close relations between the two countries.

After reaching an understanding on compliance with Iranian strait management rules, the passage of Chinese vessels through the region began on Wednesday night. According to experts, this step may strengthen Tehran's position in matters of control over a strategically important route and reduce opportunities for external political pressure around the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Tasnim news agency reported on May 8 that Iran had seized the oil tanker Ocean Koi, which sails under the flag of Barbados. According to the newspaper, the ship "tried to interfere with oil exports and harm the interests of the Iranian nation."
