The scientist called the north of the European part of the Russian Federation the best place to observe the eclipse.

The most noticeable solar eclipse will be on August 12 in the north of the European part of the country. So, in Arkhangelsk at 20:40 the Moon will cover about 80% of the solar disk. On May 14, Sergey Chumakov, Doctor of Sciences, educator, and teacher, told Izvestia.

He specified that in Moscow and the Moscow region the eclipse will be much weaker — about 2% at 20:07, which will make it almost invisible to the observer.

"The best conditions for observation are expected in Murmansk. There, the eclipse will begin at 19:45, reach its maximum phase at 20:36 and end at 21:28. With clear weather, residents of the region will be able to see the most spectacular picture of the celestial phenomenon," the expert said.

At the same time, he warned about the need to observe security measures. Even with a significant overlap of the solar disk, it is impossible to observe an eclipse without special means — this can lead to damage to vision. Conventional sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection, it is recommended to use astronomical filters or specialized glasses, such as welding ones.

Separately, the scientist noted that the widespread effect of a sharp cooling during eclipses is not always confirmed. Although a short-term blackout occurs when the Sun is completely closed, it does not last long enough to significantly affect the air temperature.

Astronomer Alexander Kamyshnikov said on May 13 that residents of Russia will be able to observe the total solar eclipse on August 12 from Murmansk. The duration of the total phase of the solar eclipse will reach 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Also, the full phase of the eclipse can be observed at the northernmost point of the Taimyr Peninsula.
