The Foreign Ministry pointed to the US negotiability of the settlement in Ukraine
Relations between Russia and the United States at the highest level indicate Washington's ability to negotiate a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 14 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin.
"Our contacts with the American side <...> leave a good impression, an impression of the negotiability of the American side within the framework of the functions it offers in resolving the Ukrainian conflict," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, telephone and face-to-face meetings of the presidents indicate the readiness of the American side for dialogue.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 13 that the condition for Russia and Ukraine to begin negotiations on a peaceful settlement was a complete cease-fire, which the Kiev authorities should order.
On May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict a matter for Moscow and Kiev. According to him, the administration of US President Donald Trump is also sincerely striving to resolve the conflict.
He added that a meeting with Zelensky in a third country is possible only if final agreements on a long-term peace treaty are reached. According to Putin, the meeting with Zelensky should mean an "end point," not negotiations.
