Lawyer Karabanov's defense appealed against his arrest.

The defense of lawyer Alexander Karabanov, accused of fraud on a particularly large scale, appealed against his arrest. It follows from the materials available to Izvestia on May 14.

Karabanov was detained on May 7.

According to investigators, the lawyer demanded 7 million from the person involved in the case of supplies for Kalashnikov Concern JSC, promising to influence the course of the criminal investigation. The man handed over 2 million rubles to Karabanov as an advance, which he disposed of at his discretion.

Acquired advantage: The townhouse and 14 billion rubles may be withdrawn from the founder of Rusagro.

Assets worth tens of billions of rubles were recorded, including his relatives and subordinates.

On May 8, a representative of Karabanov's defense announced that the lawyer had pleaded guilty to Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale").
