Hantavirus Andes is currently mutating, which is a natural process for viruses. This was announced on May 14 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, epidemiologist, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Gennady Onishchenko.

"It is clear from the signs of Andes that he is mutating after all. This is not evidence of some kind of catastrophe, but evidence that the strains are mutating. They adapt, each year they change their sequence in a certain proportion and bypass our immunity well. Fortunately, hantaviruses are low—virulent and low-contagious, although they have already begun to spread slowly from person to person," he told TASS.
