Russians were told about the danger of finding lilacs at home
A bouquet of lilacs in the bedroom can cause serious health problems, including headaches, arrhythmias, and even blurred vision. Tatiana Khrynova, Deputy Director of the Botanical Garden of Nizhny Novgorod State University, told about this on May 14.
"Lilac bouquets should only be placed in a ventilated room, in no case in the bedroom, as the smell of lilac causes a severe headache," the botanist explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The expert noted that lilac leaves and flowers contain syringin, a cardiac glycoside that can disrupt the heart rhythm, cause insomnia, headaches, and in rare cases lead to blurred vision and a decrease in blood platelet levels. At the same time, everyone's sensitivity to this substance is different, and some people may have allergic reactions.
According to Hrynova, it is best to place lilac bouquets either on the terrace, or in the living room by an open window, or on the veranda, where lilacs will not harm anyone.
Polina Voronina, director of b2b marketing at the Flowwow flower and gift marketplace, said on April 21 that irises were the most affordable flowers this spring, but seasonal plants bring the greatest benefit to customers. According to the expert, tulips, dianthuses and alstroemeria remain the most profitable to buy. Their season lasts from March to early June, and the cost remains relatively affordable. The specialist clarified that, on average, a bouquet of irises will cost 2,722 rubles, tulips — 3,080 rubles, dianthuses — 3,223 rubles, and alstroemeria — 3,894 rubles.
